heartEverything we do is motivated by one of two emotions, either Fear or Love. These two emotions are intimately related and can have major influence over each other. Each one can make us do big things, right? And each one can grip us like nothing else.

And here’s the thing: we need them both. Fear can be a great motivator for safety. Its sacred purpose is self-preservation. But we tend to grow Fear bigger than it needs to be, don’t we? We let it hang around in our hearts long after its job is done so that we’re paralyzed by its prolonged presence. Think about it. What old Fears have set up shop in your heart and how are they keeping you from having the life you really want? Fear out of balance makes us contract and withdraw.

Love, though, is expansive and supportive. Love’s purpose revolves around connection. When we live our lives from a place of Love, endless possibilities open up to us. Love means saying yes.

So what does Love long to do through you today? And is Fear holding you back? You can use these simple practices to cultivate Love and to keep Fear in its rightful place.

  1. Feed yourself and your family with consciousness and Love. Practice treating the food you prepare and eat with reverence and gratitude, because Food is tangible Love form the Earth.
  2. Give gifts. See if you can give everyone you encounter today a gift. It can be as simple as a smile or a compliment. If given with loving intention, it can have a major impact on your recipient.
  3. Question your own stories. When you hear yourself saying, “I can’t do that,” ask yourself, in a gentle and loving way, “Wait, but why?” Find out if the stories you’re telling yourself are true, or if they’re founded on Fear.
